Does Your Office Pass The Test? 5 Things You Can Improve On Today

We all want our offices to be smart and sophisticated places that facilitate work. But all too often, our offices are marred by problems that wreck their productivity.

That’s why it’s so important to get educated on what makes a good office and what makes a bad office. Does your office pass the test? Here’s what you can improve on right now.

Use The Ten Minute Rule

Procrastination is a big problem in offices up and down the land. Too many times we put off the little jobs that we don’t want to do. And all we end up doing is wasting time.

Here’s some advice. If a job takes less than 10 minutes to complete, do it now. If you don’t, you’ll keep thinking about it. And this will ruin your productivity in your other work.

Set Certain Times To Check Your Email

Checking email has become something of a ritual for most office workers. We all know what it feels like to get the urge to fire up our browsers and see who wants to chat with us. But, as we are all aware, checking emails is a big productivity killer. If you check your emails twice and hour and it takes you 5 minutes each time, that’s a sixth of your working day wasted.

Rather than checking your emails all the time, be strict with yourself. Set aside half an hour at the beginning or the end of the day to answer emails. The rest of the time focus on your work.

Streamline Your Name Tags

One of the big productivity killers in any office is the process of getting in and out of the building. You need a way to get people in and out as quickly as possible. Most businesses use a name card system.

But these systems are often slowed down by the fact that cards are not readily displayed. One solution to the problem is ID card holders from Card holders allow security to view employee’s ID quickly without them having to fumble around in their pockets.

Turn Off Notifications

We live in a world rife with interruptions. And the biggest culprit is the notifications on our phones and netbooks. Each time we get a notification, it ruins the flow of our work. And once this flow is ruined, it can be hard to get it back.

We start thinking about the next issue and lose focus on the current issue. Sites like offer guidance on how to turn off notifications so that they don’t ruin your day. You can also use popup blockers to prevent annoying interruptions from invading the corner of your screen.

Don’t Go Tab Crazy

A lot of people pride themselves on the number of browser tabs they like to have open at one time. But having too many tabs open is a surefire way to reduce your productivity.

You spend all your time cycling through tabs, trying to find what you want. It wastes time and introduces yet more distractions.

Here’s some advice: limit the number of tabs you have open at any single moment to five or less.
