The Key To Eliminating Business Downtime: Proactivity

If you’ve ever owned a business, you’ll understand how dangerous downtime can be. It affects your ability to operate, meaning customers can’t buy products and your employees can’t do their jobs.

For major companies like Amazon, website downtime can mean millions of lost sales, even in the space of a few minutes. Downtime presents itself in all sorts of forms and being proactive to prevent it is key.

There are a lot of areas to focus on when it comes to downtime. Let’s start with the physical elements of your business. You’re probably operating out of business premises that are crucial to the operation of your company. You’re housing multiple employees, lots of equipment and crucial data. This is why it’s so important to ensure that it remains safe at all times.

The first consideration is the building itself. You need a solid structure that can deal with the ever-changing weather elements without any hassle. If any issues need to be addressed, don’t wait until it’s too late. If the roof is suffering, you need someone providing affordable and quality commercial roof repair. If you’re being targeted by thieves, you need a company providing excellent CCTV security options.

From there, you need to think about equipment and data. Firstly, let’s focus on equipment. What happens if your crucial equipment like servers and heavy machinery fail? Are you going to be in a position where no-one can do their work for days? If this happens, you’re not taking proactivity seriously.

It’s your duty to ensure that you have a backup solution in place to deal with any unforeseen issues. You’ve also got a lot of important data that will be stored around the building. If it is lost, you might have wasted a lot of valuable time. You need to make sure it is backed up with methods such as The Cloud to prevent a catastrophic issue.

Then, there’s the whole issue of downtime if you decide to move to brand-new premises. In this case, downtime probably can’t be avoided totally. That doesn’t mean you’re out of luck, though. It’s a case of moving crucial items to ensure that you can get up and running as soon as possible.

Even if you’re only able to get a basic internet connection and a phone system in the new place, that might be enough for now. Don’t worry about office stationery and other equipment that can wait until the last minute.

Everything you do as a business will develop its reputation in a certain way. Customers will grow to respect you based on the way you deal with them. If suddenly, you’re unable to attain the high standards you have set, they’ll let you know about it.

You have to have some form of backup plan in place to protect your company in the event of a problem occurring. If you can, use that proactivity to spot issues before they occur and put a stop to them. Either way, your proactive nature will prevent the damage from being done. (NY –
