If you are interested in buying or selling a home, you may have researched local real estate, such as Suffolk real estate, to find a local real estate agent and found there are hundreds in your area. How do you decide between the numerous agents? These are characteristics you should look for in a real estate agent.
The right agent should care more about your interests than their own commission. This means they should put your needs above their own. For example, as a buyer, your agent should fight for the lowest price on a home, even if it lowers their commissions. As a seller, your agent should try to get you the best price without letting the home sit on the market for months because they priced it too high so they would get higher commissions.
You want an advocate who fights for you. You don’t want a friend who comforts you. Also, your level of experience will determine how dependent or independent you will be in the process. Your realtor should be able to immediately evaluate your level of need and let you know whether they have the time and resources to meet your need.
Agents should discuss their availability and communication practices with you upon your initial consultation. You should be able to spend enough time with your agent initially that you feel comfortable and confident in the agent’s abilities.
However, you should be able to get in touch with your agent when you have questions or need something, but they won’t encourage lengthy conversations that do not focus on your real estate needs. They should give you regular updates on your sale or purchase.
Knowledgeable and Focused
Agents should have in-depth market data of very specific locations. They should be able to discuss how the market looks right now and how it has changed over time. They should be able to compare neighborhoods and markets.
With a little observation research, you can find a great agent who will put your needs first.
